When we were doing some renovations on the house we live in right now one of my priorities was to increase the size of the windows in our kitchen. In particular, the one right next to the table. I have to say that it was probably one of the best renovation moves ever. Looking out on the side yard every time we are eating, in the winter I can see the level of snow gradually increase (ahem), in the spring I can see it go down (yipee!), and in the summer and fall I look out on the growing garden and the birds hopping around everywhere.
My favorite are the little gold finches. I hadn't realized how much I miss them out there this time of year until Claire mentioned to me the other morning that she misses the gold finches. Don't get me wrong, we do get a few visitors to the bird feeders on nicer winter days, but really nothing like the amount in the spring and summer.
Well, we decided with the snow falling outside and the temperature very low that it would be a good day for some inside creativity. Embroidery was requested at one point and a gold finch was made. I think I may have to add him to a garment for her sometime soon. Just for times when we need a little reminder.
